Pro Telecom Solutions an Atlanta Data Cabling Company continued serving current and new Alabama customers.

It is not rare that Pro Telecom Solutions runs a few times a week to Alabama to attend our current customers. The proximity to that State, our office strategically located and close to downtown Atlanta, makes it easier to serve them as they need.

A few days ago we dispatched a fiber service call in Jacksonville AL, a very nice little town surrounded with unique scenery. Our GPS took us on the back road, so even while we are working, we could enjoy the beauty of that town. A lot of farms, cows, horses, gorgeous houses, the Jacksonville State University, students and college dorms; made of that place a pretty work road trip.

Now, back in business! When we arrived to our service call we found a mixed bag of major fiber problems….single-mode patch cables in multi-mode fiber, single mode connectors installed on multi-mode fiber, etc. etc. However our fiber install technician was able to make a temporary fix in order to restore internet service to the building.  A major fiber up-grade will be necessary to make it work as it should be.

Birmingham the largest city in Alabama hosting Universities, Colleges, Community Colleges and Students Housing makes our business even more interesting when planning, designing and installing voice and data cabling, wireless access point, fiber optics and surveillance security systems…. YES one stop shopping for your low-voltage cabling solutions needs.

I am particularly proud of our MDU- Multiple Family Units (Apartments & Condominiums) clients, in Birmingham Alabama, that for many years we have served them with Cable TV up-grades helping them to reach the fast moving technology.

Whether you are Multiple Family Units (Apartments & Condominiums), Senior Living & Assisted Living Community, University & Student Housing, Hospital and Dentist Office, Bar & Restaurant, Government and Military Facility, Hotel & Motel, Marina, Resort, and RV Park or a Gym, Pro Telecom Solutions can assist you with any of your telecommunications needs from a fiber optics repair and design to providing Dish Network Business as the best entertainment at the best value in the market.

I always hear from our new customers, how difficult is to find a local contractor with knowledge, experience and capable of completing the job the first time. If you are in Mobile, Tuscaloosa, Huntsville, Phoenix City and Montgomery Alabama or surrounding cities, with need of telecommunications assistance, please give us a call and let us know how we can help…

Distributed Antenna Systems: Options and Best Practices

Thu, Apr 24, 2014 12:00 PM CDT

1:00 PM EDT / 12:00 PM CDT / 10:00 AM PDT / 5:00 PM GMT

Distributed antenna systems continue to grow in popularity as the drivers that create demand for them remain strong. Increasing numbers of user organizations are investigating and deploying DAS to support their mobile-connectivity needs. This webcast seminar, hosted by Cabling Installation & Maintenance, examines the mobile-use trends and facility considerations that make distributed antenna systems realistic options for enterprise environments, the components that make up a DAS including the supporting cabling infrastructure, and some practical best practices for accomplishing as DAS deployment as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Presentation 1: When, Where, and Why DAS is a Preferred Solution
Combinations of mobile-data use, building/facility construction, a DAS’s performance capabilities and other causes have made distributed antenna systems a practical and effective solution to many enterprises’ connectivity challenges. This presentation outlines the dynamics that bring DAS to the forefront as a technology solution. It can include descriptive information about trends in mobile-data use, the physical setup and/or construction of end-user facilities that inhibit service-provider wireless connectivity, and can compare DAS to other enterprise-level wireless connectivity technologies. The presentation provides a detailed explanation of why DAS is viewed as a technology of choice by many, and a solution of necessity by some.

Presentation 2: Distributed Antenna System Components and Architecture
This presentation describes for the audience the elements that make up a DAS as well as the general architecture of a system. It covers considerations such as a DAS’s proprietary vs. standardized nature, going on to explain the hardware as well as the cabling-media options that are available. The presentation also offers an overview of the design and installation processes for these systems.

Presentation 3: Managing a DAS Deployment Project
The specification, design and installation of a distributed antenna system require significant coordination among a number of parties. This presentation provides a set of best-practice guidelines that takes the audience through the process of a DAS deployment. Beginning with the user’s recognition that DAS is the appropriate system for them, the presentation details the processes as well as the parties involved in bringing the project through to completion.

The old saying, "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is," can be especially true when hiring a contractor. Competition is fierce in the construction business and the consumer is in a good position to demand quality work at a fair price. But skimping on credentials is not the best way to get a job done cheaply. Hiring a contractor that is not licensed and insured places the consumer at significant risk and can cost thousands more in the long run.

Hiring a licensed contractor offers many additional protections to the property owner.  First of all, a contractor cannot obtain a license without possessing a minimum amount of experience and must pass several tests. The applicant also may be subjected to a criminal history background check, and must not have any unresolved contracting complaints outstanding.

If you are considering hiring a contractor, ask few questions like:

•How long have you been in business? Look for a well-established company and check it out with consumer protection officials. They can tell you if there are unresolved consumer complaints on file. •Are you licensed and registered with the state? Many states, but not all, require contractors to be licensed or bonded. Check with your local building department or consumer protection agency to find out the licensing requirements in your area.

•How many projects like mine have you completed in the last year? Ask for a list. This will help you determine how familiar the contractor is with your type of project.

•Will my project require a permit? Most states and localities require permits for building projects, even for simple jobs. A competent contractor will get all the necessary permits before starting work on your project. Be suspicious if the contractor asks you to get the permit(s). It could mean that the contractor is not licensed or registered, as required by your state or locality.

•May I have a list of references?

•Will you be using subcontractors on this project? If yes, ask to meet them, and make sure they have current insurance coverage and licenses, if required. Also ask them if they were paid on time by this contractor. A "mechanic’s lien" could be placed on your property if your contractor fails to pay the subcontractors and suppliers on your project. That means the subcontractors and suppliers could go to court to force you to sell your property to satisfy their unpaid bills from your project. Protect yourself by asking the contractor, and every subcontractor and supplier, for a lien release or lien waiver.

•What types of insurance do you carry? Contractors should have general liability, worker’s compensation, property damage coverage and other depending of the contractor clasification. Ask for copies of insurance certificates, and make sure they’re current. Avoid doing business with contractors who don’t carry the appropriate insurance. Otherwise, you’ll be held liable for any injuries and damages that occur during the project.

These few tips will give the right tools for your next project.... and remember "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is,"

Georgia Board of Low Voltage Contractors

The Georgia Construction Industry Licensing Board consists of five divisions: the Division of Conditioned Air Contractors, Division of Electrical Contractors, Division of Low Voltage Contractors, Division of Master and Journeyman Plumbers, and Division of Utility Contractors. Each Division has five members who are contractors, journeymen, engineers, and inspectors. In addition, the Board has two consumer members who are not connected with the construction industry. The Board members are appointed by the Governor to serve a term of four years.

The Board protects the public against faulty construction installations through the licensing of contractors. The Board establishes and administers standards for the licensing of the contractors in the above professions. These standards maintain the qualifications for entry into the professions, including experience, examination, and training, and the qualifications for continued practice, including work standards and education. Each division evaluates applicants for licensure, conducts examinations, issues and renews licenses, evaluates the practice of licensees, takes disciplinary action against licensees, and enforces the requirements for licensure.

Download NWBOC's WBE Re-certification Form and Affidavit in Word format

The first time you are certified with NWBOC your certification remains valid for one year. After that period of time an annual re-certification is required in order to remain a certified Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) through NWBOC. No additional documentation is necessary unless there have been changes in the ownership, control, business structure, name of your company, etc. since you were last certified or re-certified.

If none of the above changes are relevant, simply complete the Affidavit (download link is above) and send along with a copy of the company's most recently filed tax return (including K-1s, if applicable). Also send the re-certification fee according to business size:
$200 fee if gross sales are under $2,000,000
$300 fee if gross sales are over $2,000,000

If changes in your business have occurred, record them on the Affidavit (which is the last page of this document.) The following information is required:

  • If any changes in company structure, (i.e. corporation, limited liability corporation, etc.), ownership and/or control, officer/directors or other changes (i.e. name, address, etc.) have occurred during the past year, please submit the legal documentation to support the changes.

Remember to sign and date the Affidavit! Re-certification is not automatic.

It is vital that you send in the re-certification materials prior to your expiration date.
